MISSION STATEMENT:

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Salvation Army is seeking a Congregational Life Youth Coordinator for the new Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, Phoenix South Mountain. The Center is currently in construction and when completed in the spring of 2012, the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center will be approximately 147,000 square feet of building with spaces including: library, computer labs, 3 NBA size basketball courts, volleyball courts, .6 mile indoor walking/running track, 2 practice boxing rings, indoor swimming pool with lazy river and water slide, banquet facilities and kitchen, café, teen center, performing arts center and chapel, music room, wellness center, dance studio, and more. In addition, there are outdoor fields, an amphitheater, a water spray ground, patios, and plazas. The Kroc Center will be an amazing resource to the community and will fulfill the benefactors’ vision of a community center for arts, education, recreation, spiritual guidance, and wellness…a place for nurturing and developing the mind, body, and spirit.

The Salvation Army recently closed the South Mountain Corps Community Center, which was a 42,000sf facility that provided programs to low and moderate-income families, with a heavy emphasis on youth programs, in preparation of the new Kroc Center.

The Congregational Life Youth Coordinator is scheduled to begin employment prior to the opening of the new Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. The Congregational Life Youth Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Congregational Life and the Corps Officers with all youth ministries to include programming, outreach, and administration assignments. This position will develop and implement a growing spiritual Ministry targeted specifically to young people of the Phoenix South Mountain and surrounding areas within the framework of The Salvation Army’s programs, policies and practices. The Congregational Life Youth Coordinator will oversee and plan for youth ministry, music, band, and theater programs towards building Congregational and Kroc Center relationships with the many families and youth participants.

The emphasis of this position is on the spiritual values of The Salvation Army. This position will evangelize in all youth program areas with emphasis in the largest program area--- youth sports. The Congregational Life Youth Coordinator has an important role in growing the congregation, supporting congregational life and development of discipleship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

„X An Associate degree desired, Bachelor’s degree preferred in Christian Ministry, Religious Education, Counseling or related field.
„X A minimum of two years experience leading a variety of Corps youth programming and ministries, preferably a Salvationist.
„X Ability to work with youth of diverse backgrounds and circumstances and under stressful conditions.
„X This position has access to confidential and private information. It is essential that confidentiality and privacy be observed and good judgment applied.
„X Excellent organizational skills and the ability to carry out multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
„X Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with current Microsoft software computer programs including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, E-mail, Internet, and standard office equipment and systems.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license and insured transportation.
„X Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis.
„X Current First Aid, CPR, and AED required. If not current, then certification must be obtained within two months of hire. Instructor certification preferred.
„X Be self-motivated and self-directed with the ability and desire to take projects from beginning through completion. 
„X Have a philosophy of education and child development which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Crops Community Center. Exhibit a sincere concern for youth
of all ages to be nurtured and guided in The Salvation Army oriented Christian standards and lifestyle.
„X Responsible for ensuring compliance and advocating for The Salvation Army Protect The Mission and Child Safety Policies in all programs and facilities.
„X Required to pass a background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
As this position will directly support key programs and ministries of The Salvation Army, the Congregational Life Youth Coordinator must be fully committed to the advancement of The Salvation Army’s Christian mission through the functions described below and in all aspects of his or her employment with The Salvation Army.
  
„X Develop a calendar for the year that identifies events and activities that will be attended or hosted, for the purpose of developing and strengthening relationships with youth and families.
„X Provide leadership to youth Sunday School, including planning assemblies, promoting attendance, and recruiting and training teachers.
„X Provide leadership to mid-week youth programs including Creative Ministries and Troops.
„X Support youth programs and develop participation in Junior Band and Youth Theater.
„X Conduct an effective Junior Soldier Development Program/Corps Cadet Program.
a. Schedule Junior Soldier Preparation Classes (Minimum 2 per year)
b. Conduct regular Junior Soldier classes.
c. Assist with Corps Cadet Program as needed.
„X Utilize special events as an outreach tool.
a.  Plan and implement special events on a quarterly basis to draw youth into the Corps fellowship.
b. Submit reports regarding the planning, implementation, and outcome of each event to the Director of Congregational Life.
„X Assist with seasonal activities as directed.
„X Maintain records and participation statistics as required.
„X Prepare and submit a proposed budget for the Youth Ministry programs to the Director of Congregational Life.
„X Receive and safeguard offerings, activity fees and donations, and process according to established procedures. Maintain and safeguard the handling of petty cash as assigned.
„X Organize and lead teen fellowship and spiritual development activities.
„X Provide transportation for Corps activities/meetings as assigned.
„X Secure and maintain appropriate supplies and resources for all aspects of the Youth Ministry. Inventory and maintain all equipment in good order.
„X Ensure compliance with Salvation Army Protect The Mission and Child Safety policies with volunteers and part-time staff.
„X Will be required to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Must have the ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
